User experience and its importance

User experience and its importance

With the development of the Internet, the term “User Experience’’ has become a keyword of the Internet product development. The definition of the user experience is not so absolute, and it is also not so sacred and unalterable for ordinary people. In recent years, all people are talking about user experience, it seems that everyone can be a UI/UX designer, as the popularity of design in the world. But what exactly is it and why does user experience matter?

For understanding UX we need to know what is UCD i.e User Centred Design. User-Centred Design (UCD) is a user interface design process that focuses on usability goals, user characteristics, environment, tasks, and workflow in the design of an interface. UCD follows a series of well-defined methods and techniques for analysis, design, and evaluation of mainstream hardware, software, and web interfaces. The UCD process is an iterative process, where design and evaluation steps are built-in from the first stage of projects, through implementation. It is also called as 6D framework which contains 6D i.e discovery, define, dream, design, develop & deliver.

User-Centred Design is a philosophy or approach to the design and development process where as User Experience is about the value you are delivering at every point when the user touches a product. This value must align with user and business goals and provide a positive experience on an emotional, social, cultural, psychological and physiological level. In User Experience Design, you find the alignment in the user and business goals and return to these iteratively during the UCD process, all to create the value proposition which will shape the overarching user experience.

User experience (UX) refers to a person’s emotions and attitudes about using a particular product, system or service. It includes the practical, experiential, affective, meaningful and valuable aspects of human–computer interaction and product ownership. Additionally, it includes a person’s perceptions of system aspects such as utility, ease of use and efficiency.

Importance of User Experience

In terms of design, user experience is just as important as visual identity. It doesn’t matter what your site or app looks like if people don’t know how to interact with it. And moreover, they need to enjoy that interaction. While UX is important for any digital product, it is even more important for certain types of digital products: complex sites or applications, retail or online sales, start-up sites and businesses, small-budget projects and projects or sites that are expected to last a long time. UX is the key for complex sites because users must be able to easily navigate the site and understand how to use it. Neglecting UX can result in a sloppy site that people will not come back to. Developing an interaction-rich experience will drive users back to a site.

In conclusion I can just say that User experience is an art form of its own. You never can predict for certain how your site or app will be perceived. What you can do is arm yourself with the tools to make informed decisions about UX in the design process.
