BrandzGarage Through The Ages – part 2
As a designer at BrandzGarage, I’m often asked, “How hard is it to design a logo?”
My answer? However hard the client plans to be.
Perhaps even rude, but true nonetheless. Here at BrandzGarage, I’ve seen logo approvals – not design; approval – take anywhere from under 10 minutes to upwards of six months and frankly, I don’t blame them. The logo for your brand – big or small – is oftentimes a very personal thing, and as with all things personal, bias is sure to knock on & over your carefully calibrated process. Maybe you missed a brand value, maybe that font is too bold, maybe a happier yellow would work. As I said, you can’t blame them for being fussy parents.
However, unlike actual fussy parents, you don’t have the liberty of naming your beloved company Dave while genetics does all the branding work. And that’s where professional branding agencies – like us! – come into play.
But… what if you’re a branding agency yourself?
Now, before you insist that your humble author stands on one foot while spouting the alphabet in reverse for thinking ‘branded brand, branding brand-branding brand’, let me remind you that a blind guide-dog doesn’t inspire much confidence. Metaphors aside, if you have been following our story as we showcased the reflection of BrandzGarage’s growth on its logo, you know we are particularly fond of our current one.
You might even wonder, “Why this design?”
Well, prepare to be educated!
The BrandzGarage Beta
Let’s start with what we find to be the most misunderstood part of the design. The beta sign can give the impression of – to put it bluntly – being second.
“What? Was alpha taken?”
Not so much. From the time that BrandzGarage was a twinkle in the eyes of our founders, one thing was certain: We were going to make things better.
Our dream would not be limited to ourselves, no, we would help other organizations reach the stars and in the process, shine even brighter. From nascent startups to towering corporations, we have a plan for everyone.
Thus, like beta testing, BrandzGarage takes care of the nitty-gritty parts. The actual execution.

To come down to a point, our values stem from the execution of ideas. The betterment of dreams. We even claimed to unfold magic at one point. Because that’s what the realization of dreams is – magic.
Furthermore, it also fit as an easy visual mnemonic – ß is for BrandzGarage, better get BrandzGarage. Simple and effective.
The Rounded Hexagon
Circles are reliable. Triangles are strong. Squares are honest.
The hexagon? The hexagon is eager. Eager to collaborate at the drop of a hat to build complex, magnificent designs.
We are busy bees and we proudly accept this as our work ethic.
Black & White
It’s an odd choice, we’ll admit.
Brands just stick with one or the other. Mostly black. It creates a mystery while representing power, authority and elegance in the logo.
Together though, they are contrast, and together they lose individual meanings. Black & White. Night & Day. Eager & Better. That’s what BrandzGarage is to us.
